WR Donovan Morgan earns Week 3 honor

WR Donovan Morgan was named Week 3's AFL Playmaker of the Week after his performance against inner-state rivals the Pittsburgh Power. Morgan recorded 12 catches for 112 yards and 4 TD's along with 23 yards on 3 rushes.

Morgan's 112-receiving yards doubled the output of fellow teammate WR Tiger Jones, the Soul's second leading receiver of the game. On the Soul's first two drives of the game, Morgan caught the ball 5 times out of the 6 plays that advanced the ball for the Soul for 45 yards and 2 TD's. FB Derrick Ross was the only other contributor on those drives with 1 rush for 1 yard. Morgan accounted for 98% of the yards for the Soul on those first two crucial drives of the game.

Morgan has already displayed the ability to set the tone early for the Soul after two games into the season having done so in Week 2 against the New Orleans VooDoo as well.

His 3 rushes (all in the 3rd quarter) also helped extend drives as he rushed for 9, 6, and 8 yards respectively. Despite signing 2011 All-Arena First Team FB Derrick Ross, Morgan leads the Soul in total yards rushing (47) and yards-per-attempt (7.8) on just 6 total carries. To compare, Ross has 46 yards on 14 carries for an average of 2.8 yards, but he does have the team's only 4 rushing TD's on the year.

So after two games, Morgan leads the Soul in yards rushing (47), yards-per-rush (7.8), catches (20), receiving yards (198) and receiving TD's (6). From the looks of it he certainly can do it all and deserves the recognition of being one of the league's premier playmakers.
