DB Tanner Varner Traded

DB Tanner Varner never reached expectations during his short stint with the Philadelphia Soul. The Soul traded Varner to the Kansas City Command for a Claim Order and Future Considerations yesterday. The additions of DB Micheaux Robinson and DB Rayshaun Kizer this off-season made Varner expendable after missing the Soul's final 11 games due to injury in 2011.

Varner came to Philadelphia in 2011 as a very high profile signing in an attempt to bring the Soul back to prominence after their two year hiatus. He performed well during his seven games with the Soul though racking up 45.0 total tackles, 4 pass break-ups and 5 interceptions. The injury kept Varner from racking up league leading numbers, but that goal was to resume in 2012.

Look back to my January 20th post on Varner to get a better glimpse into his background.

The Command instantly receives one of the best DB's in the AFL who should be well rested and healed up by now. Hopefully he stays healthy enough to display his dominating ability yet again while instantly updating a Kansas City pass defense that ranked 10th in the league last season.

Wish we could have saw more from Varner, but the Soul have two very good options just waiting to win the fans of Philadelphia over with excellent play.
