Soul tops Week 3 Coaches' Poll

The Philadelphia Soul moved up to top the Coaches' Poll in Week 3 after the San Jose SaberCats (last week's number 1 team) lost a last second 60-59 contest to the Utah Blaze on the road. The Soul leads the AFL in scoring (73.5 points per game) and rushing offense (44.5 yards per game) after three weeks of play. The only other undefeated team left in the AFL, The Chicago Rush, landed on the number 2 spot. Here's the full list below:

The Milwaukee Mustangs are the only other Eastern Division team to make the list. Also if you notice neither the VooDoo (0-2) or the Power (1-1) made the list and those are the two teams the Soul have faced thus far.

The Soul made the list so high based off the fact that they along with the Rush are the only two teams left that are undefeated. The Soul are a very good team, but their mistakes have me thinking that they're not really the league's number 1 team as of yet.

The Soul has the second worst average penalty yards per game (70.5) in the league. To compare the Chicago Rush (the category's leader) only average 16.0 penalty yards per game.

Also the Soul has a turnover margin of -1 having committed 7 turnovers and only creating 6 themselves. The Georgia Force lead the league with a +8 turnover margin having committed 6 turnovers, but their defense forced a league high 14 so far.

They've still been able to win their games though, but I'm thinking that when tougher teams come along the Soul might not get so lucky all of the time.

I'm basically waiting for the Soul to play the Force and the SaberCats in Week's 5 and 6 respectively to better gauge this team. The Mustangs will be a tough challenge as well, but I'm looking for opponents outside the division since I believe that's where the tougher challenges lie.

Regardless of where they're ranked, the Soul are off to a good start at 2-0, but with 16 games remaining in the regular season, the Soul are still a ways off from clinching this thing.
