- It seems as if we won't know who the VooDoo will start at QB until tomorrow. With Kurt Rocca and Brian Zbydniewski on the roster, the VooDoo has two viable options since each had 16 and 10 games worth of starting experience last season respectively. I'm putting my money on Rocca to earn the starting nod, but good luck to whoever starts having to go up against this Soul defense in game number one.
- The VooDoo has an extremely young roster in regards to AFL experience with 13 rookies currently on the roster. Of the team's 24 players, six of them were around last year in wake of their 3-15 season. Besides the QB's the only other players with notable AFL success are WR/DB Josh Bush and WR Skyler Green. Bush has seven years of WR, DB, and KR experience and has been a valuable contributor to every team he's played for; he played for head coach Pat O' Hara in Orlando the past two seasons. Green is coming off his rookie campaign with the VooDoo where he caught 50 passes for 622 yards and 14 touchdowns. Beyond that everyone else has much to prove in this league, but just because the VooDoo has many rookies it doesn't mean that some of them won't excel. This is a league where rookies can flourish instantly with the amount of untapped talent that comes into the league every season.
- A familiar face on the roster is DB Jorrick Calvin, a Baton Rouge, LA native. He's a rookie in the AFL, but Eagles fans may remember him as the team's return man back in 2010. After CB Ellis Hobbs went down with a neck injury, the rookie Calvin jumped in a performed pretty decently for the Birds. You might also remember the pre-season controversy when the Eagles traded draft pick RB Charles Scott to the Arizona Cardinals for Calvin right before cuts were due. Scott never suited up for the Cardinals, but the Eagles got almost a season's worth of use out of Calvin. It'll be fun to see how he transitions to the arena game after not seeing action since the 2010 season.
Tomorrow I'll have a half-time report posted along with a game summary posted within an hour after the game ends. The Soul landed in New Orleans today and hopefully will leave tomorrow with their first victory of many more to come in 2012!
